Hey hey USA - 31st October - Eagles Nest

After lunch we drove north to Eagles Nest where we found a dirt road leading to a parking spot where we could walk down to the lake and enjoy the wild life. When we arrived the first thing Alan noticed were several golden eagles circling in the sky above us. Talking to people afterwards it seems that we were very lucky as this is a rare sighting in Eagles Nest!

I really did not have the right equipment on me for taking pictures of birds a long way away but I had a stab at it anyway. The images do not stand close inspection!

The track down to the lake went through sandy, scrubby land mined by prairie dogs who popped up and down in their burrows as we went passed them. We kept our eyes on the lookout for rattle snakes but did not spot any. I am sure the prairie dogs made a good meal for them.

There was a heron next to the shoreline. Eagles nest lake had an abundance of trout so he was well placed.

We also spotted a ferruginous hawk on our stroll and a  coyote moving in the very distant bushes.

All in all it was a lovely peaceful place to spend some time.
