Spring flowers

Image
I thought I should publish some flower pictures before spring has run her course. Here they are followed by some bluebells from our local, rather untidy wood. I have finished the series with some sundown pictures from my local dog walk. The last four pictures are multiple exposures as is the third amelanchier one.

France, the Alps, 6th April - a short walk into the woods.

There is a slight problem with living at the top of a steep hill with an elderly dog. That said the morning views over Mont Blanc from the front of the chalet were superb. Here I tried in infrared as well as on the 'normal' camera with the old 400mm lens. That morning Alan went out skiing which you can do from just down the road, within walking distance of where we were staying. I took the dog for a walk down said road but it was hard work for her coming back. Alan arrived back for a late lunch and then we took a stroll along a footpath from just out of the back of the chalet. We took it slow as I was photographing and the ground was pretty rough. In fact we came to a dead end as there had been a land slip and the path was obliterated. There were lots of wild crocuses round which were very pretty and we came across broken down house amongst the trees.

Lakenheath RSPB Reserve - no bird photos included

Image
Mid April saw Alan and I at Lakenheath with some other members of Cambridge Camera Club. I did take some bird snaps with my 70-200 zoom and a 1.7 teleconverter but in comparison to other peoples pictures they were pretty poor. There were some marsh harriers but they did not get close enough for me and we heard a couple of bitterns. The only trouble with doing landscape photography in a bird reserve is that when you start shooting everyone gets really excited and asks you what special bird you have seen. This only leads to disappointment! I did a mixture of straight and ICM shots. The combination of the golden reeds and the fresh spring green of the leaves was compelling. The last picture is a 'false multiple exposure' blended in photoshop

Bluebells - first glance

Image
I am behind in publishing blog posts so am a little out of time with the season. I have been to our local wood three times while the bluebells have been out this year and I have not seen them look so good before. A wet winter has agreed with them although the wood is still very scruffy after the storms. I promise you you will be sick of bluebells by the time I have finished, but here is the first set taken when they were just coming out.
