Holkham bay seascapes - the sea itself, abstractions

Image
It has been suggested to me by David, that I take the pictures of the waves that I published in the previous blog and crop them to make more abstract images. I invite comments and so I was pleased to hear this. I had had a slight resistance to doing it in the first place as I have seen other, similar photographs. But heck I have seen a lot of beach photos too. So, if you can stand them all again, here we go. Some I think could be cropped even further, but I would be throwing a lot of pixels away.

Holkham bay seascapes - the sea itself 1

The water was warm and we were encouraged to take a dip. I realised that it would be good to take pictures of the breaking waves while in them and had a 9 stop neutral density filter on my camera which slowed the water down nicely. Here are some of the results.

Leaving Dover by ferry in the fog

Image
Last weekend we made a flying visit to Paris in the camper van. We took the 10.00am ferry from Dover to Dunkerque and left in a thick sea fog. I have made this crossing many times but never under these conditions and it was quite eerie.

Windy morning at Happisburgh

Image
After a stormy Friday night in February we made post haste to Happisburgh to see what was happening with the sea defences. The water was churned brown in colour and the waves were quite choppy but not as large as I would have liked. One of the caravans from the park at the top of the cliff had been damaged and it looked as if the nearer caravans should be evacuated. The weather was changeable with deep clouds and sunshine alternating. The first picture shows the colour of the water but the rest of these I have converted to black and white in Silver Efex Pro 2 using the Tri X preset to get a bit of grainy contrast. I included the picture of Alan as I only realised afterwards that he had a little man on his shoulder. It reminded me of one of the 'Ghost Stories of an Antiquary' by M R James -  'Whistle and I'll Come to You' which was set on the Norfolk coast. He is wearing the strange glasses to stop the sand blowing in his eyes!
