Yorkshire in January, a trip home from the north

Image
Finally it was time to turn south again. We had decided to make an early start of it and drive across Yorkshire, through the wolds to the Ribblehead Viaduct. And on moving inland it was a bit of a shock to find snow, a thing not often seen in Essex. It made for slow going as I was forced to keep jumping out of the van to take yet another photo. Coming into Swaledale we also had some mist with a watery sun trying to come through which gave nice conditions. Here is the selection. Some in mono and some in colour. The last picture is a panorama of the viaduct made with 17 pictures stitched together in photoshop. It has given this strange perspective, logical I suppose with a bridge that long. If I had left more room around the individual photos I could have straightened the viaduct out in photoshop but as it is it will have to do.

Cairngorm - a little snow

Image
After breakfast and a bit of a late start as the weather was not great we all went up to the ski resort at the top of Cairngorm. We had to park in the lower car park as it was crawling with people, being half term. I struck up the hill towards a snow occasionally sinking up to my knees in the snow. It was overcast and misty. I converted the following to monochrome as there was little colour to be seen anyway.

Fading Snow

Image
The snow looks as if it is on its way out. So here is a shot taken yesterday of the pylons stalking through the snow. This was on a lonely open footpath between Arkesden and Wicken Bonhunt. The Pylons with some 'Colour Effex' added I am off to Iceland for four days tomorrow, so hope to be back with more stuff next week

Grantchester with a dusting

Image
On Sunday we had a walk through Grantchester meadows - always worthwhile as you can get a cup of tea and a scone from the Orchard Tearooms on the way back to the car. There was only a scattering of snow in Cambridge, but we got a good few inches in Arkesden that afternoon  All of the pictures except for the deckchairs at the Orchard have been converted to black and white and toned blue

Days of Snow and Frost

Image
Over the last few days we have had frost and snow - just a scattering at first and then yesterday a few inches. Here are a few pictures from Arkesden   These have been converted to monochrome in Silver Effex2 and given a blue tone to match the colour palette at the time they were taken and conserve the feel of the place.
