California, 4th November, afternoon and sunset at Golden Canyon

The last place we visited along the Badwater Road was Golden Canyon.  When we got there it was getting late and the light had mellowed. We walked down the canyon for about a mile to the blind end where it meets a wall of red rock known as the Red Cathedral. There are little side paths you can take. One leads up to the back of Manly Beacon the prominent rock seen at Zabriskie Point. When we were walking back up the canyon towards the entrance we took the side path towards the beacon and it was lit in the golden afternoon sunshine. Turning our backs for a moment we looked at it again to see that it had been cast into shadow as the sun fell. Having reached the car again, Mairi thought she would run back to the campsite to get a bit of a workout, but I decided to stay on at the canyon as the light was getting more interesting. I walked back down to the end of the canyon but everyone else had left and I started to feel a little spooked. The light had almost go
