Winter in Filey and Bempton Cliffs

Image
Last January Alan fancied a couple days staying near Filey and Bempton so that we could see the sea birds on the cliffs. We stayed in some rather odd accommodation and arrived late in the afternoon so that when we took the dog for a walk on the beach in Filey the sun was already going down. Early the next morning we got to Bempton and walked down to the cliff edge to look at the birds. The light was glorious but it was absolutely freezing and we couldn't stay out long before we lost the feeling in our hands. When the RSPB centre opened we warmed ourselves with much needed coffee and buns.

Venice alleys by day and night

Here is a collection of alley pictures I took in Venice, by day and then after dark. The last one is looking down to the door of our apartment.

Arkesden fog

Another look back at January this year when there were a few foggy mornings. These were taken from the fields opposite my house as I was walking Hettie, who is very old and patient.

Maldon and Burnham-on-Crouch, a winter excursion

Image
On a warm wet July morning it seems strange to revisit these scenes from a post Christmas winter trip to estuarine  Essex. At that time of the year when the mornings are crisp but the afternoon sun is low and warm. We were in Malden for lunch and then walked along the promenade in Burnham as the sun was retreating.

Hatfield Forest, early winter evening

Image
In the dying days of December last year we went for a late walk in Hatfield Forest. There was a skim of ice on the lake and the sun was sinking. I had my Fuji on me and decided I would take a few 'arty' shots using intentional camera movement as well as some 'straight' ones. I hope you can tell the difference!

Wonderful Whitby

Image
Whitby on a cold, very windy afternoon in January, but still packed with people and still difficult to park near the town. Where do they all come from, here to sample the fish and chips or various goth delights on offer? But Whitby is always a street photographer's delight, relatively untouched by chain stores and with it's own quirky atmosphere. Here are some pictures from the streets of the town and then looking across the coast through the course of a short afternoon.
