Yorkshire in January, a trip home from the north

Image
Finally it was time to turn south again. We had decided to make an early start of it and drive across Yorkshire, through the wolds to the Ribblehead Viaduct. And on moving inland it was a bit of a shock to find snow, a thing not often seen in Essex. It made for slow going as I was forced to keep jumping out of the van to take yet another photo. Coming into Swaledale we also had some mist with a watery sun trying to come through which gave nice conditions. Here is the selection. Some in mono and some in colour. The last picture is a panorama of the viaduct made with 17 pictures stitched together in photoshop. It has given this strange perspective, logical I suppose with a bridge that long. If I had left more room around the individual photos I could have straightened the viaduct out in photoshop but as it is it will have to do.

Workshop at Blubberhouses, Yorkshire

Image
Last May I went on a daylong workshop set near Blubberhouses in Yorkshire. It was run by Lizzie Shepherd and I have participated in a further workshop with her since. Lizzie had chosen two locations. The first was Fewston Reservoir, where the spring leaves were fresh and green, fringing the water. The second was another pool but this time more secluded, being a vigorous walk from the car up to Guisecliff wood. Our mission was to try and make some compositional sense of the tangles of branches and foliage. Here are some pictures from Fewston And here from Guisecliff.

Guisecliff Wood, a few infra red images

When I was in Guisecliff Wood, Yorkshire this time last year, I also took some infrared images. Here they are, in the colour rendition produced by my infrared converted camera.

Goredale and Whinskill

Image
We had a trip up to Cumbria at the end of April to take Alan's mum to a doctors appointment. Over the weekend we made a visit to Malham and walked a little way into Goredale. Coming back we passed the Whinskill rocks and I photographed one of the trees growing out from the limestone pavement - cliche´ I know. The first 3 pictures are taken using ICM and multiple exposure.
