A trip up the Shard

Image
At the end of May this year we went for a trip up to the top of the Shard. Late May was not the best time to choose, a cold crisp winter's day would have been better and then we could have watched the lights come up over London as the sun went down. However we had to make do with a rather dank and drizzly May day. I took some more 'architectural' pictures, which I converted to monochrome, and ones of the view which I intended for colour. Here are the monochrome set. The first one is taken from inside Guy's Hospital grounds. The views looking up are taken from the very top which is open to the sky.

Here are the monochrome conversions of some of the photographs I took on Rough Tor. I thought the gritty rock suited the black and white treatment, and the intense blue of the sky allowed me to turn it nearly to black using the red filter in Silver Efex, the conversion software I used.

As I explained in my last blog about my visit to the Hurlers, a couple of stone circles on Bodmin Moor, I took some photographs intending to produce them as black and white images. Here is the set of monochrome pictures. The last three pictures were taken using the Lensbaby lens which tilts so that it has a narrow range of focus.

I decided to convert a few of the early morning misty pictures from Point Reyes into monochrome, as they were nearly monotone anyway. I used Silver Efex Pro 2 for the conversion and added a small amount of coffee toning.
