France, into the Vercors, 17th April Pont-en-Royans

We arrived in Pont-en-Royans, a charming small town with an old quarter overhanging the River Bourne. This must have been useful as an early sewage system. We needed to make some telephone calls back to the UK so we had coffee on a terrace overlooking the river. This had been channelled into various pools with a water feature of questionable taste! Still it was obviously a nice place for the locals to stroll or cycle.

Descending to the level of the river we saw that the houses were arranged in a very chaotic manner. There were some lovely reflections, which would have been even better if the sun was shining.

We had parked the van in the camping municipal which lay a little out of the town by the banks of the river. The narrow streets in the town were not conducive to parking.
When we arrived back a slight mist hung over the river and everything looked very green and fresh. We spent an easy night there and awoke next morning ready to explore. First we had to try and rescue a young duckling which had lost its mum and was running backwards and forwards along the bank and over the campsite. We could see no sign of any other ducklings and did not know what to do. The lady arrived to open up the office and put the duckling down with a pair of ducks who looked very disinterested. I am sure it's chances of survival were slight but we did not fancy shipping a duckling back to England!

  1. Despite the grey weather you have captured the essence of this quirky and beautiful place. I love the abstract trees at the end.
