An interlude for a look at Saffron Walden Crank Up

Image
A couple of weeks ago a now annual event took place in a field just outside Saffron Walden. Numerous steam driven vehicles, pumps, old cars, stalls and refreshment wagons rolled up to entertain the incomers. The Saturday was very wet but Sunday dawned fine and we went there for a couple of hours in the afternoon to admire the show. Here are a few pictures from our visit. What larks.

Bluebells from Wiltshire

I am interrupting the Chicago blogs to bring news of bluebells, while they are still in bloom. Last week I went on a work shop with Valda Bailey and Terry Gibbons based in a wood where there were a mass of bluebells. Unlike the woods around her it was quite tidy which made for less distractions. The morning entailed a 5.00am meet up so I stayed overnight at a B&B in Pewsey in order to lessen the shock. We photographed until around 9.00am and then went back to Marlborough where we had breakfast and spent a few hours developing and printing our pictures with the help of Valda and Terry, and also Toby from Fotospeed (feel a bit of a traitor here as I have always been a Permajet girl). The sun came up with a lovely warm glow and there was even a little mist coming through the trees. Here are some of the finished images, with some ICM and multiple exposure ones at the end.

Avebury

After a very wet early morning it had started to dry out a little in Avebury, but the sun did not come out and the sky remained ominously cloudy. When I arrived the car park was empty but as time drew on more and more people came to walk around the stones and take in some of the atmosphere. I took photos at first using the Holga lens on my digital camera but then switching to a 'normal' view. I converted all of the pictures to monotone.

Stonehenge and Silbury Hill

In early March I went on a visit to Stonehenge arranged by the RPS. We were on an early morning (6.30) trip which English Heritage put on to allow direct access to the stones. Needless to say it was absolutely tipping down with rain.  There were some non photographers on the trip and it was difficult to get shots without people in the frame so I decided to go with the flow and include them in a more positive manner. Then to try and get something a little different I used a Holga lens. The trip had finished by 9.30 so I had some breakfast and then drove up to Silbury Hill and Avebury to continue along the same lines. The rain stopped and the people came out. However Avebury seemed a lot more atmospheric than Stonehenge. Here are the pictures from Stonehenge and Silbury Hill, Avebury to follow.
