A day out in London - first and last

Image
Last week I spent a day in London with Mairi and Archie. We met Hugh for coffee and then went to the Design Museum, stopping by the Tower of London for lunch. Here there were masses of people looking at the ceramic poppies placed to 'celebrate?' the first world war. After the museum visit we went to Covent Garden to see the street entertainers where there was a curious mime artist who said he was the oldest person to squeeze into a box of a certain size. I have not shown him in the box as that is pretty uninteresting. I think I will stick to photography! The pictures are mainly taken with the Fuji XE-1 with one LG phone image (the second). I am unashamedly putting the only black and white picture first as it is the best picture,  although chronologically out of order as taken at the South bank. I will post the Design Museum pictures in the next blog.

Stopping in Lindfield -a walk in the woods

Image
While we were in Lindfield Alan took part in a cycle race on the Sunday morning which took him about 4 hours. I wondered where I could go to take photographs while he was racing. It was quite hot and I thought I would like to keep away from tourists, so I took a walk along a footpath leading out from the farm which led through cool woods. The light was lovely drifting through the trees and it was quite windy at the field edge of the wood. Here are the results.

Stopping in Lindfield - some rural decrepitude

Image
The farm where we were staying had it's share of abandoned barns and farm machinery which included an Audi Quattro, mouldering in a barn which had started to descend around it. We have stayed here a couple of times before and it has not improved any, so I think it may be too late to fire it up. The shack with 'private' written on it was 'the facilities'!

Stopping in Lindfield - evening and morning

Image
Last weekend we spent in a field on a farm in Lindfield, Sussex (we were in the camper!). We had a nice evening outside and the weather was balmy. Here are a couple of shots from the first evening and then one from the morning after when there was still dew and gossamer on the grass. The first 3 pictures are different treatments of the same photo.

Holkham bay seascapes - the sea itself 2

A few more ICM pictures from Holkham. The last I assure you (until I go there again, it is the most glorious place).

Holkham bay seascapes - the sea itself, abstractions

Image
It has been suggested to me by David, that I take the pictures of the waves that I published in the previous blog and crop them to make more abstract images. I invite comments and so I was pleased to hear this. I had had a slight resistance to doing it in the first place as I have seen other, similar photographs. But heck I have seen a lot of beach photos too. So, if you can stand them all again, here we go. Some I think could be cropped even further, but I would be throwing a lot of pixels away.

The water was warm and we were encouraged to take a dip. I realised that it would be good to take pictures of the breaking waves while in them and had a 9 stop neutral density filter on my camera which slowed the water down nicely. Here are some of the results.
